Moving (Back) to Mambo | Print |  E-mail
Jul 12, 2007 at 01:49 PM
Since Joomla decided to change the enforcement of the GPL licence, we decided to move (back) to mambo. This ofcourse after doing the required research and noticing the positive changes Mambo has gone through. The points wich convinced us were (among other points) transparancy en the clear statement/ licence guidelines (quoted):

14. Who has the power to enforce the GNU GPL license of Mambo?
Only the copyright holder, the Mambo Foundation, has the power to do this. If the Mambo Development Team finds, or is made aware of, a breach of the GPL, they will report it to the Foundation for them to take any necessary action.

10. I have written a Component, Module, Template for Mambo. Do I have to release it under the GPL?
No. The GPL allows you to write your own extensions for Mambo and to release those extensions under whatever license you choose.

The news concerning the Joomla! change of reinforcement rules was posted almost a month ago, and we felt that it was time to "decide and move on".

I'm your client. What are the consequences for me?
The sites of our clients who are using joomla, will be converted (back) to "Mambo Open Source" free of charge, if you choose to follow our advice. The conversions will start after the summer vacation. Your site will look the same, and most importantly the functions that are important to your site, will work the same.
